Take the attitude of a student, never be too big to ask questions, never know too much to learn something new. ~ Og Mandino
Modern Life is Rubbish
“To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage and kindness… The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.” ~ Howard Zinn.

All I Want Is You
Heard this on the radio today. It's been a long time since i heard this one.
According to lead singer Bono, the song is dedicated to his wife. A poetic and lyrical description of true, unconditional love perhaps.
And the music video is excellent too. The symbolism of the depth of true love in the lyric are captured in this black & white short film. But an unrequited love. A midget falls in love with a 'normal' woman. Apparently, she has feelings for him too but actually loved another man. A more 'normal' man. But what is 'normal' anyway? Does 'normal' in a physical sense equates to other things? That only a normal man can love unconditionally, while other 'not-so-normal' people could not.
According to lead guitarist Edge, the video was inspired by a 30's film called 'Freaks'. These day, they rarely make this kind of music video anymore.
You say you want
Diamonds on a ring of gold
You say you want
Your story to remain untold
But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you
You say you'll give me
A highway with no one on it
Treasure just to look upon it
All the riches in the night
You say you'll give me
Eyes in a moon of blindness
A river in a time of dryness
A harbour in the tempest
But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you
You say you want
Your love to work out right
To last with me through the night
You say you want
Diamonds on a ring of gold
Your story to remain untold
Your love not to grow cold
All the promises we break
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you
You...all I want is...
You...all I want is...
You...all I want is...
You...

I love U2 and this is one of my favs... it's pretty long like a symphony. So bad the new album is not as good :S
Hi MKL
The music of u2 has been my constant companion since the 80's when i first heard their song "Pride".
This song is quite long as it's meant to be a poetry piece about love.
Ya, it's a little regrettable that their later works (would say everything after 'Achtung Baby' was just not that good) don't elicit the same kind of enthusiasm that i had for their earlier works.
Haven't listened to their latest "No Lines on the Horizon" yet.
Well, I wouldn't say after Achtung everything is bad. I liked the 2 albums before, after desastrous Pop, they came back huge in 2004 and 2004, but this year... yawn*

Well, you have to listened to their whole work from the beginning in the late 70's/early 80's.
The first album of them i listened to was their peak "The Joshua Tree". Worked backwards from then to their first "Boy" album and upto their last "HTDAAB" (for me, that is). "Zooropa" is fun but does not break new ground. Their new sound was already covered in the very good "Achtung Baby". But it took me a long time to appreciate "Achtung".
If you did, you would have noticed that "All That You Can't Leave Behind" and "HTDAAB" are both a return to their early sound- guitars in the fore. But on their own, the music in these two albums are nothing to shout about really.
